Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Frosting:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the applesauce, brown sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently until just combined.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

  8. While the cake is cooling, prepare the frosting. Beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.

  9. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cinnamon, and continue to beat until the frosting is light and fluffy.

  10. Once the cake is completely cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top.

  11. Slice and enjoy!
